Technical
The feature will include portions of the five hours of footage taken on the mountain by the climbers themselves, interviews with the climbers and their family members, and purchased stock footage to enhance aesthetics. Clarke Productions aims to create a film that will appeal to as large an audience as possible by giving an accurate depiction of the events and by embracing highly engaging themes.   Using the resources available, ER will work to impart to viewers as accurate a feeling of the sacrifice, misery and hardship associated with climbing Mt. Everest as possible.

  • ER will explore the following themes and questions:
    • What is the overriding drive for extreme athletes to put their lives at risk in pursuit of such goals?
    • Can these pursuits be justified considering the effect on family members and loved ones?
    • How does one man decide to save the life of another at the risk of losing his own?
    • What has the commercialization of Mt. Everest done to the purity of climbing?

Following these guidelines, CPI will create a film that is both accurate and compelling. It will appeal to the avid mountaineer because of its realism and insight to the reactions of climbers facing emergency.   It will also appeal to the non-climber because of its emphasis on the humanity of such extreme pursuits. ER will allow the audience to relate to the fear and suffering felt by loved ones, the physical torture and broken dreams of those who gave up their summit bids, and the overall appreciation of life felt by someone who narrowly escaped death.

It is hard to overstate the depth of this story and it is hoped that you will help us make it available to a wider audience.
